The VTF is an instrument based on large-format Fabry-Pérots for imaging spectro-polarimetry. It will take narrow-band images of the Sun at very high spatial and temporal resolution, allowing for rapid imaging spectrometry, Stokes imaging polarimetry, and accurate surface photometry. At first light, the VTF will be available in a configuration with one hi-res etalon. In the talk, we will give a brief update on the overall instrument development and the etalon manufacture. We will discuss key science cases that will/can be addressed with the single-etalon VTF and give an outlook on the full science capabilities of an upgraded two-etalon VTF.
