Guided Tours

Guided tours through the laboratories at the Institute for Astrophysics and at the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research will be offered during lunch breaks. There will also be opportunities to visit the Physical Cabinet with a collection of historical instruments next to the main lecture room.

The number of participants for all guided tours will be limited. Please, enscribe in the lists provided at the registration desk.


Laboratories of the Institute for Astrophysics

The tour includes the instrumentation projects at the institute with a focus on frequency stabilization for the calibration of high-resolution spectrographs.

Max Planck Institut for Solar System Research

The guided tour of the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research informs about the institute’s research topics and methods as well as current participations in space missions. The tour visits the laboratories and workshops and passes by the clean rooms.

Duration about one hour. One tour in english and one in german per day.
Maximum of 20 participants each.


Physical Cabinet (historical collection)

At the entrance to the lecture halls, one finds the collection of historic instruments. It mirrors, from the beginnings of systematic research in the 18th century to it’s most famous period as world leading center for physics and mathematics in the first half of the 20th century, the history of physics in Göttingen.
